Jack R. White Sr.January 9, 1921 ~ June 15, 2010 CARMEL - Jack R. White Sr. died on June 15, 2010. He was 89 years old. Jack was born on January 9, 1921 in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina and grew up in El Paso Texas, where his father served in the 8th U. S. Cavalry at Fort Bliss. His family moved to southern California in 1939, where he worked for Lockheed Aircraft Corporation in Burbank. In 1943 he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps and after serving as a flying radio operator at different bases, he met the love of his life, Olive Jayne Dickinson in San Antonio, Texas. They married on August 4, 1945. Following his discharge in 1946 he and his bride returned to college, both graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1948. Go Tarheels! At that time he went to work for ALCOA, Aluminum Company of America, and served in various sales and administrative positions in Los Angeles, CA, Hartford CT, St. Louis, MO, and New York, NY. While at Hartford he earned his Masters Degree in Economics from Trinity College and also found time to become a 3rd Degree Mason (He was raised a Master Mason on April 13, 1955 in Daskam Lodge No.86 in Glastonbury, CT). In 1962 he was transferred to the ALCOA International Division headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland. Where his regional sales position took him to France, Spain, Portugal, the Middle East and Africa. He was quite at ease with foreign languages, being fluent in French. After years of wonderful traveling, he retired in August 1979. Jack then spent the next several years living in Florida enjoying the second love of his life, sailing. He and Jayne sailed up the East coast to Maine, exploring every waterway possible. Their voyages also took them to the Bahamas, where they spent many weeks sailing through the islands. Jack Sr. was a devoted fan of the "Big Band" era of music. He loved Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Benny Goodman and Count Basie. He was also a very devoted fan to his grandchildren's sports. Rarely missing a softball/baseball game, "Pa" was ready to cheer the team on. "Way to go team!" are words we will always cherish. Jack was preceded in death by his wife Jayne of 59 years and his two sons, James Dennis and Jon Scott. He is survived by his eldest son, Jack Jr. and his wife, Kathy of Carmel. He also leaves behind three grandchildren, Julia, Katelynn and Roland as well as four great- grandchildren, Alicia, Tommy, Natalie and Madison. Good-bye Pa, we will love you forever! At his request, no services will be held. Following cremation, ashes will be scattered at sea privately by his family.
