Robert A. King has laid down his working tools

kingrobertBr. Robert A.  King passed away on May 24, 2011. Brother King was raised a Master Mason on November 30, 1955 in Orient Lodge No. 62. The family requested a Masonic Service on Wednesday, June 1, at 11:30 AM at Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home at 318 Burnside Avenue in East Hartford.

February 14, 1929 - May 24, 2011

Robert A. King, 82, of East Hartford, passed away Tuesday, May 24th, 2011 at Manchester Memorial Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Janet (Haynes) King. Born in Massachusetts to Romeo and Mary (Hayes) King.
"Bob" as he was known, joined the Navy after high school, he proudly served his country in WWII and the Korean War. Making his home East Hartford for 48 years, he raised his family with his beloved wife and three children. He was employed by Pratt and Whitney as a tool designer, retiring after 38 years. Bob was a member of the Masons, VFW, and Elks club and was the building coordinator for the Machinist Union, IAM. He enjoyed growing his tomatoes plants. He was a fun loving, caring man who saw the brighter side. He opened his heart and home to those in need. He will be remembered for his witty one liners and scooting down Main St. with his dog Shadow.
Bob is survived by his daughters, Cynthia King of East Hartford, Cheryl Smith and her husband Brian of Manchester; his grandchildren, Morgan and Jordan Smith, Steven Fisher and Ryan King; his daughter in-law Suzanne King; his sisters, Barbara Bowman and Arlene Psarris; his brother Richard King; several nieces and a nephew and his long time friend Salvatore Barone "Uncle Murph". He is predeceased by his son Kevin and his brother John.
Funeral services will begin Wednesday, June 1st, at 11:30 at Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave. East Hartford, CT 06108. Calling hours will begin at 10am Wednesday morning (June 1st) at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Hillside Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: the Shriners Children Hospital.
