FITZPATRICK, Judy

It is with the greatest sorrow we announce the passing of Judy Brooks Richards Fitzpatrick, 77 of Wethersfield CT after a brief, but heroic battle with brain cancer on July 6, 2010. Born in Cleveland, OH on January 11, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Wilfred Anderson Richards and Julia (Callender) Richards. She was the wife of the late Richard David Fitzpatrick of Wethersfield, CT. Judy was member of Wethersfield High School class (1951) and a graduate of Willimantic State Teachers College (Eastern Connecticut State University), University of Hartford, and the Gesell Institute of Human Development at Yale University. After completing her graduate studies, Judy went on to teach for the Wethersfield Public School system and the Hartford Arch Diocese at Corpus Christi School in Wethersfield. A consummate educator, she helped shape children's lives for over 40 years until diagnosed with brain cancer in May of 2010. Her love of travel during the summer months took her through most of the United States, Europe, Central America, and the Caribbean. When not traveling, Judy could be found enjoying her passion for gardening. Judy was a member of the First Church of Christ (Congregational) in Old Wethersfield where she taught Sunday school for many years. She is survived by her son, Montgomery Anderson Fitzpatrick, daughter-in-law, Julie Ann (Sheldon) Fitzpatrick, her sister Wilfred-Ann (Richards) Harper, and many nieces and nephews. Friends and family may call Friday (July 16, 2010) from 5-8 p.m. at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road, Wethersfield, CT 06109. A memorial service in her honor will be conducted at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. A graveside service will be conducted Saturday (July 17, 2010) at 10 a.m. at the Village Cemetery, Marsh St., Wethersfield, CT 06109. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Judy's name to the Corpus Christi School Development Fund, 581 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield CT 06109.
