Master's Message - September-December 2008

Septermber-December Trestleboard PDF

My Brothers: I must apologize for this trestle board being very late. Time, as you know, seems to go faster each year. That tendency was suddenly reversed in July however when Jane and I learned that our daughter Abbey had a tumor in her chest. It was nearly six weeks before we learned that it was diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, which to our relief is a very treatable form of cancer, especially for one of her relatively young age. She began her regimen of chemotherapy and is doing well now that she knows what it is and what to expect. We anticipate that she will be fully recovered six months from now.

Our Ceilidh this past May was fantastic success in all ways except one. Thanks to the hard work of many brothers, especially our kitchen crew, the afternoon and evening went off without a hitch. Brothers continue to remark to me about the quality of the Anah Temple Highlander’s degree work and concert, the banquet and fine Scotch Whisky tasting and the wonderful concert by P.V. O’Donnell and friends. My brothers from Maine tell me that it was “a historic event and quite possibly the highlight of their Masonic careers!” Their bus was spotted on Sunday morning at the liquor store in New Hampshire cleaning out the supply of The Glenlivet’s best whisky.

The only downside of the event was our failure to cover all our expenses. This shortcoming and the sparse initial commitment to my planned trip to Maine in light of its likely cost, lead me to cancel that planned event.

Despite cutting out that trip, we still have a full slate of activities this fall, starting with our third Fall Wine Tasting and our third Ladies Night at the Hartford Club. See the enclosed fliers for the details of those events. Brothers, I earnestly solicit your support of these two events as well as our regular meetings listed elsewhere in this trestle board.

Too soon, my year as Master of Columbia Lodge #25 will be over. I want you to know that it has been my privilege to serve you over the last three years and that I have every intention to continue to actively participate in the activities of this great lodge.

Fraternally, Skip House
