April - June 2008 Master's Message |
|
This year is passing quickly. The first quarter is already laid up among the records of the lodge. The lodge had a successful inspection by our District Deputy, Bro. Melvin E. Johnson during which we raised Bro. Brian Berk. February saw us initiate a new brother and conduct our second “Ladies at Table” with 72 brothers and their guests participating. March saw us initiating two more brothers. Our kitchen crew has been working overtime this winter, serving four dinners to the delight of the brothers attending. On behalf of the lodge, I express our thanks to this hard working crew who add so much to our meetings. I also want to remind you all to make your reservations with our Junior Warden, Jeff Moores at least a couple of days in advance of each dinner. Interspersed with our stated meetings the brothers of the lodge conducted three CHIP events with help of Boy Scout Troops 61 (EH) and 156 (Glastonbury). Pack 158’s dental hygienist, Izabella Pulvermacher says of working with the Freemasons, "Giving back to the community is a nice feeling." We tried to schedule a repeat of last year’s afternoon of helping CPTV by taking phone pledges during a UCONN women’s basketball game, but were told that all the dates had been reserved. A last minute opening occurred in January, however, so we rallied the ladies of Good Intent Chapter #17 OES and again manned all the phones for another successful fund raiser for public television and radio. We plan to conduct a Fellowcraft degree on April 16th and a Master Mason degree on May 7th. Our annual awards night is scheduled for May 21st with the Grand Master planning to attend. I have tentatively scheduled another Entered Apprentice degree for June 4th as we have had a couple more inquiries from men expressing interest in becoming Masons. Our final meeting prior to going dark for the summer will be a cookout and evening of fellowship at the lodge with a very brief business meeting on June 18th. The BIG event for this spring will be held on Saturday, May 31st. My fellow nobles of the Anah Temple Highlanders will be visiting our lodge that day to exemplify the Master Mason degree using the Maine ritual on a candidate from Maine who is planning to become a Highlander. I can tell you with no little pride that this degree team is noted for its outstanding ritual work in full highland dress. Lodge will open at 3:00 PM for the degree, following which the Highlanders will be performing a concert outside while we setup for a “dining in” (like a table lodge, but un-tiled). Instead of the usual wine toasts we will learn about and sample five Scotch Whiskeys throughout the course of the meal. Following the meal, we will be treated to a concert by renowned Irish fiddler PV O’Donnell and friends. This promises to be popular and most memorable afternoon and evening. Seating is strictly limited so admission will be by ticket only. Tickets covering the entire event are $75 and must be purchased in advance from Jeff Moores. Call Jeff at 860-614-5474 to reserve your ticket, which must be paid for by May 15th. See the included flyer for more details. I suggest you get your reservation in early as this event is likely to sell out. Fraternally, Skip House
