From the East - November - December Master's Message

November - December Master's Message

Brothers:

As my term in the East comes to a close, I marvel at how fast it went by. I must admit that I was apprehensive about taking on this job last year, but it turned out to be a genuine pleasure, due to the willingness of the brothers and friends to pitch in whenever there was work to be done. Many thanks to all who participated in the CTCHIP events, the “playscape raising” and the UConn Women’s Basketball telethon. I hope to arrange doing that again this season.

Columbia Lodge is truly blessed to have several extremely talented chefs among the membership. Steve McMahon, Paul Finney, Jon Tufano and Bob Nordstrom always come through with a fine dinner. They can always use help with serving, and especially with cleaning up after. Please take note of this for the dinner before the Special Communication for the Master Mason Degree on Monday, November 19th, as those in the kitchen will need to be upstairs as soon as possible for the work of the evening. Please note the times.

Please join in to assist at the upcoming events. Worship Service at the Masonic Healthcare Center in Wallingford at 3 PM on Sunday, 11/11, Santa’s Run at Glastonbury High School on Sunday, 12/2, The Salvation Army Holiday Store at Homewood Suites on Monday, 12/17, and also at the Red Cross Blood Drive at the Lodge on Wednesday, 12/26.

The greatest joy of all has been the many new members who have become Masons at Columbia Lodge this year. There are still several degrees in the near future and I hope you will all come to welcome and encourage your new brothers. I’d like to see our degree teams expand and to have a list a brothers willing to be called on to assist at our various functions.

The annual meeting of Columbia Lodge will be held on Wednesday, December 5. Please come to cast your ballot for next year’s elected officers and to extend them your support. The Building Association’s annual meeting will follow the Lodge’s.

The Installation of Officers will take place on Saturday, December 8, 2007 at 7:30 PM.

I once again would like to thank everyone for the opportunity to serve Columbia Lodge No. 25 for this year and those whose efforts made it such a pleasurable experience for me.

Fraternally,
Rich Beebe

View from the West

Brethren: It appears that Columbia Lodge has established an important new and successful tradition in the Fall Wine Tasting Festival. It is important, because through it, we are making our presence in the community more visible; and it is successful because it is a night of great fellowship and a financial success. This year’s income from the event was just over $1,400. I want to thank the hard work of Brothers Paul Finney, David Wills, and Jonathan Beatty whose efforts made our success possible. We look forward to the continuation of this tradition and would welcome any suggestions to improve it.I have started planning activities for 2008 in the anticipation that I might be fortunate enough to move to the East next year. I anticipate an encore of the “Ladies at Table” to be held around Valentine’s Day. I am working to arrange a visit in the late spring from my brothers in the Anah Temple Highlanders to exemplify the Master Mason Degree and provide the excuse for a Ceilidh (I’ll leave it to you discover the current meaning of that Gaelic word that literally translates as “visit”). The other big event I envision for the year is a fall foliage tour to Bar Harbor, Maine with a side trip for the brothers to my mother lodge in Dover-Foxcroft to exemplify our Master Mason Degree.

I congratulate RW. Bro. Rich Beebe on an excellent year cementing relationships within the combined lodge and note that he will be leaving big shoes to fill. I pledge to work hard to make it an active and productive year and ask for your support and participation. Together we can make it happen!

Fraternally, Skip House
